Took this one last night. I am so sad that it came out so dark but still like it. What can I do? Any Suggestions? Focal length 50 mm 1/60 F 4.0 ISO 400
*Meter off your daughter's face and not the lighted cake. *bump up your ISO to 800 or more if needed to enable your shutter speed to be at least 1.5 x your focal length. *You may have to open up your aperture a bit to accomplish the above (remember the triangle)
I read on your blog that you only want to use NATURAL light. Don't be afraid of your flash (provided it is an external flash that can be bounced). If you buy one, it will go a very long way towards helping you get really terrific inside photos during those long winter months, etc. I bounce my flash inside, and there are no flash shadows or pinlights in the eyes. You would never know I even flashed. Just something to think about. :)
cute girl and Happy Birthday to her. I had no advice for you but wanted to thank Lori for hers. I learned something as well from the advice she gave you!
I am a lover of everyday moments. I want that to pour out into my work. I love using natural light. No artificial lighting. I want to capture my subject doing everyday things. Enjoying life to its fullest!

I'm no help on the cc. I think momstime had some good comments :) Looks like a really yummy cake!
Go on Ebay and buy a cheap Minolta 50mm 1.7 lens. What a fantastic lens for low light situtations. Mine was $70 and I use it all the time.
I took this picture into PS and just moved the center slider in Levels and it brightened her precious face. All is not lost on this shot.
Remember boosting the ISO produces more noise, so if you are willing for the trade off then go for it, but I think the Minolta is the ticket.
Oh, the flash you bought is great....I am very happy with it, that said, I do avoid flashes as much as possible. Sometimes you have to use one.
